I also forgot to mention the wonderful birthday party Kim and Alan threw for William on Thursday, the 9th, his birthday. We had lots of Mexican food, cousin Ryan was there from California, and there were Iron Man favors everywhere. It was a definite Iron Man theme. We ended the night watching Iron Man, a fitting close to the evening. The movie held up and we all enjoyed it. Robert Downey Jr. is a very interesting actor to watch. Something about the reactiveness of his face. There's always something going on in his expression. You want to watch him to see how he's going to react next. He and Gwyneth were good together. I like when they're on the balcony after dancing together and talking about the experience of dancing in front of everyone and what it meant and if everyone will misinterpret. Gwyneth is hooked on her backless dress giving people the wrong impression. It just reminds me of people, how we analyze situations even when we're still in them, and worry about the impressions we make on others. How a group of two reassure each other that it's really okay, each reinterpreting the situation to make it more acceptable for the other. We're such mammals, metaphorically grooming each other to soothe each other's nerves. It's endearing.
I gave William a silver necklace from James Avery. Of course I had to use our debit card to get the necklace, and when he saw the name of the place, he looked them up online and saw all this religious jewelry and thought I'd got him a cross or something. I looked at several places for the necklace as I had something specific in mind. It's easy to veer into caricature with male jewelry so I was careful. I saw these necklaces made from titanium or something which were really cool in the case, but then when the man got one out and tried it on for me it was way over the top. He was like, "You really don't want something much shorter than this for a man." I was like, Oh yes you do, (in my head). Then when I tried a different necklace on at James Avery I thought, "It's perfect!" until I remembered William has a bigger neck than I do. It would have been a choker. So I went up two inches and it fits him well.
Today is our first anniversary. A year ago today. It's hard to believe. It's been one of the best years ever. We're happy.
Today for lunch he came home and surprised me with Tino's gyros, red roses, and a card. Since we're going out for dinner tonight I wasn't expecting it. He's working from home for a little while today. Later we'll go out to dinner and maybe see a movie.
