Feeling better today. Apparently pregnant women are more susceptible to colds because your immune system is lowered so that you won't reject the baby. I thought that was interesting. I thought William would get it but he has the immune system of a rhino.
I've been following the local quints' story on their blog. All five of them are now home from the NICU. I wish I wasn't unduly suspicious of the boy baby (the only boy) being the largest by far. I suspect he gets the most attention and is therefore thriving more. The dad talks about him the most, he's in the most pictures, and he always wears different clothes. Plus he's in the middle of all the pictures, with the girls arranged on either side. Am I reading into this too much? They're doing a pretty amazing job handling the whole thing and I'm sure it's a nearly impossible task. Five babies. If I were the mother and there were one girl would I give her more attention? I don't know. Their older daughter gave all the babies nicknames and she calls him "Prince Jack," which seems apt so far. Oh well. I guess I'm over-sensitive. All the babies are very healthy for quints and obviously the parents are bending over backwards so probably I shouldn't quibble.
I think the Obama's new dog is ugly. I may be influenced by fifteen years of clipping a Standard Poodle (one of our three dogs when I was growing up, Chaos). After that you start to look at grooming-intensive dogs in a new light. Even if their daughter is allergic, unless she's extremely so, as long as the dog isn't sleeping in her room or bed and is bathed regularly I don't think it's that big a deal to have one of the breeds which is less allergenic. I'm allergic to dogs and I never had that bad a time being around them. It would have opened up their options on breeds. If it were me I think I would have concentrated on finding the most trainable, tractable dog possible rather than worrying about allergies as much. It's a lot of responsibility being the White House dog. Although it did crack me up when one of Bush's Scotties bit a reporter shortly before they left. It seemed to show some discretion on the dog's part. As in, after eight years I will not stand any more of this!
I read about something called supine hypotensive syndrome, which explains my strange feeling after I lie on my back too long. It's dizziness from suppression of the abdominal aorta when a pregnant woman lies supine. Ever little thing has a fancy name in the world of pregnancy.
I was going to talk about our birthing class but I'm tired out.
