I just had lunch and sat next to Gary, the writing coordinator. He said he liked my reading and that the voice sounded very authentic and like a real person. He said something else too but I can't remember what. I think he wanted to say more but someone else started talking. I'm so excited to get approbation! I feel more confidence flowing in me as I spend more time here.
I also sat next to Harryette Mullen, the visiting poet. She said she was sitting around with some writer friends and they were trying to figure out how to fit "America" or "American" in their titles because books with those words in the title sell more. So instead of Sleeping with the Dictionary it would be Sleeping with the American Dictionary.
It's really pouring now. I saw some more wildlife this morning; a great blue heron, so big someone called it a pterodactyl at lunch, standing in the middle of the shallow Gihon River. It ruffled its feathers and stalked about, its beak in the air. No one can tell a heron what to do.
